The United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) Challenge is a prestigious, annual event, which has greatly assisted in the improvement of rescue standards and technical skills within fire and medical professionals.

This high-energy and exciting event took place between September 27-29that Roald Dahl Plass in Cardiff Bay, where emergency services personnel gathered and competed in a variety of challenges including vehicle extrication, trauma care, USAR, rope rescue and water rescue.

Excelerate are proud to have supported long-standing customer South Wales Fire & Rescue Service host this years’ UKRO Challenge by providing a resilient communications network and real-time video streaming solutions for the event.

Excelerate’s portable command pod was strategically positioned at the Wales Millennium Centre to give enhanced and extended coverage across the vicinity.  In addition, LTE handsets were provided for secure and private voice communications so that the medical assessor could listen in on the medical trauma exercise from a safe distance, without obstructing any of the participating responders.

A number of deployable cameras including Body-Worn, Rapid Deploy and Sherpa – the automatic lamp-post climbing camera & communications delivery system provided live video feeds of the event back to the control room delivering a full view of the challenges taking place. The addition of COFDM technology ensured high quality, uninterrupted transmission at all times.

Excelerate’s new Demonstration Vehicle with integrated flat-panel satellite antenna was also on-hand to provide a resilient and secure communications backhaul.  This state-of-the-art vehicle enables zero gap connectivity on-the-move and is a game changer for emergency response.

“We were extremely proud to support the UKRO Challenge again this year and it’s been a pleasure teaming up with our customer South Wales Fire & Rescue Service by being their Technology Partner for what has been a fantastic event.
