5G RuralDorset: An Update from Operations Director, Bethan Evans

Tomorrow, Tuesday 16th February, the Excelerate team will be travelling to Dorset for a socially-distanced and COVID-secure series of meetings with various stakeholders involved in the 5G RuralDorset project.

Excelerate are well advanced with the system procurement, set up and test of the 5G radio systems that will be deployed at strategic locations along the Dorset coastline – Kimmeridge Bay, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Ringstead.

In addition to the 5G infrastructure we are also progressing the look and feel of the applications that will use this new 5G system. We are undertaking this work in close cooperation with the local landowners, Dorset Council, tenants and members of the emergency services.

During this visit we will be engaging directly with the key people from each area to discuss in detail the final location for the digital connected signage, the format that these signs will take and who they would like to nominate to provide input to be displayed on the signs.

The team at Excelerate Technology have been encouraged by the level of interest in 5G RuralDorset, and plan to continue holding similar meetings as this exciting project progresses. This will ensure a smooth roll out of Excelerate’s technology along the Dorset coast and evidence how better connectivity in the area can improve public safety.
